Means of transportation that is gained by asking people, for a ride in their automobile to travel a distance
Hitchhikers have been around long before there were automobiles;
A farmer, knowing his neighbor is driving into town that morning, asks if he can
come along.
Newspapers picked up on
the idea and began publishing
instances of hitchhiking on 1911.
