Michael Francis O'Connor O'Donovan (1903 –1966) was an Irish author of over 150 works, who was best known for his short stories. He was born in Cork City, Ireland. There is a description of his childhood in the first volume of his autobiography An Only Child. His father was a laborer and alcoholic. Therefore, his family was depressed with emotional and financial problems. As a result, O’Connor formed a strong relationship with his mother, who encouraged him to read and protected him from his father’s drunken rage. O’Connor’s deep love for his mother and hate for his father has affected many of his stories.

"My Oedipus Complex" is a story about a young boy, Larry, who grows up with his mother. When his father returns from World War I, a man who Larry never have knew, begins the battle between them for the mother's love and attention. Frank O'Connor chose an interesting title for his story. …
