John Steinbeck was one of the most popular and widely read American writers of the 20th century. He grew up in California. The place where he lived has influenced his writing. In John Steinbeck's novel The Pearl, a couple’s life is dramatically changed when Kino finds a pearl of great value. He begins to dream of the benefits that his family will gain. However, "something infinitely black and evil," which symbolizes greediness and envy, has started to spread over the town. In the novel symbolism can be found in the characters, colors, and animals and objects.
In the extract, author shows different personalities. Through these persons we can find out their attitude to Kino’s luck.
