LIPOCHAETA
L. succulenta is a perennial, clump-forming
subshrub up to 0.91–1.22 m tall with lax,
spreading stems that root at the nodes.
Leaves are glossy green, succulent, and 5.1–12.7 cm long.
It is restricted to coastal areas below 91 m
elevation, and common in beach areas
along the Nā Pali coast of Kauai.
There are difficulties regarding the
classification of this genus for its affinities
are uncertain. Some studies have been done to clarify its taxonomic and phylogenetic relationships.
BRIGHAMIA INSIGNIS
Despite its rarity in the wild it is not hard to
cultivate in a nursery, and it has come into use as a novel ornamental plant.
As an ornamental plant Brighamia carries
insignis sometimes the ( English ) name
"Hawaiian Palm ", without, however, that this would be a regular or common (trivial ) name for the plant.
Hawaiian Palms (Brighamia Insignis) have an unusual beauty. With soft green leaves and a patterned trunk, they are both sculptural and decorative. In the Spring and Summer these palms sprout pale yellow flowers that smell like honeysuckle.
