The theme of the extract is high life people’s everyday. It seems that baronets always have a cheerful, bright, happy and good life. This extract shows the opposite of the previously mentioned opinion. Top drawer people’s life actually is very bleak and even grim. Nothing changes around them because life is very monotonous.
Another point is that the story is the third person narration. The narrator describes and characterizes the story from outside. He gives a perfectly detailed description of his Lady Dedlock, her husband, their bleak house and life.
What is more, the mood and atmosphere of the story are created by the choice of lexical stylistic devices. By choice of them it is easy to imagine every detail of characters and views.…
