After the Fall of Iron Curtain the EC Member States were not Eager to Accept Post-Communist Countries as New Members

The Iron Curtain was generally agreed to have gone by 1990, with the disintegration of Soviet influence in Eastern Europe and the collapse of the Union itself in 1991. New-born European countries were looking forward to establish close partnership with Capitalist European countries and to become members of democratic Europe associations. The most important was considered European Community – what become transformed into European Union (EU) with Maastricht Treaty on 1993.
