During all human history there have been something prestige and something of low quality. For example in Middle Age clothes of purple color was allowed only for people from royal families or for people from the highest class of society. For simple people this prohibited color was just a dream. This purple color clothes was a kind of medieval brand and that time contemporaries were loyal to that brand.
