History
Rhythmic gymnastics grew out of the Swedish system of free exercise developed by Per Henrik Ling in 1814.
The Estonian Ernests Idla created the corresponding difficulty levels for each movement.
In 1946, rhythmic gymnastics, was introduced in the Soviet Union as a sport where gymnasts participate in competitions
The International Gymnastics Federation officially recognized rhythmic gymnastics in 1962

Rhythmic gymnastics as an individual Olympic sport was added in 1984
In Denmark, Copenhagen introduced group exercises
In 1996 in Atlanta, group exercise was added to the Olympic Games
