Both Seligson’s argumentation and Inglehart’s later response to his critic[1] seems plausible, but the main issue where their thoughts differ is what kind of level of analysis is used.: macro-level vs. micro level and aggregation of data. Seligson with his critique has also brought back question: what does political culture mean and how can we measure it.
Furthermore, this week’s reading put forward the issue of individualistic vs. ecological (inference) or cross-level fallacy. Ecological fallacy is a common problem because it is easier to obtain aggregate data than data on individuals (therefore there are disadvantages of using Eurobarometer or World Value Survey etc.). …
