Euthanasia is the merciful permitting the death of hopelessly sick or injured individuals in a relatively painless way, for reasons of mercy. The term comes from the Greek word meaning "good death."
There are many different types of pain an ill patient can experience. It is frightening to think that numbers of terminally ill patients may suffer excruciating pain because of fundamentally strict federal and state laws that prohibit citizens from choosing assisted death.
