Um 1419 Gutenbergs Vater, Friele Gensfleisch, stirbt in Mainz. Im folgenden Jahr müssen sich Gutenberg und seine Geschwister mit ihrer Stiefschwester Patze wegen des Erbteils des gemeinsamen Vaters vor Gericht auseinandersetzen.
