The ironic take on the representation of a hero can be felt throughout the text. Verbal irony appears mostly in the narrators remarks, such as, ‘Cohen’s voice radiated awe, or as much awe as possible without teeth, which is about the same amount as with teeth but sounds a great deal less impressive’. However, the situational irony can be traced in the disagreement of the concept of a hero and the depiction of Cohen as a hero described earlier.
All in all the stylistic devices such as allusions and irony, as well as the carefully crafted narrative and well developed characters captures the reader’s interest and pulls the reader into the Pratchett’s fictional world.
