4. TOURIST ATTRACTIONS IN GRANADA
1. Alhambra
It is an architectural ensemble that is located in the eastern part of Granada. The Alhambra, nowadays is the only palatine city of the Islamic period. It is considered to be the best example of Nasrid Art in its beautiful gardens and architecture of its buildings. In this massive complex, enclosed in the walls with towers, also included picturesque gardens, colossal residential buildings, soaring mosques, huge baths, enormous warehouses, and a cemetery. Nowadays it is a museum of Islamic architecture. Every year this monument is visited by a lot of tourists.
2. Generalife
Generalife - the creation of the second sultan of the Nasrid dynasty Mohammed II (1273-1302), rebuilt by Ismael I in 1319, located at the foot of the Cerro del Sol hill and separated from the Alhambra by a ravine. It was conceived as a garden and a plantation in a typically Muslim representation, its position north of the Alhambra and opposite the Granada floodplain became another factor in merging with nature, which is typical for many buildings of the Arab Granada. The tourists visit Alhambra and Generalife in the one day and an entrance fee is 69 €.
3. Albayzín
In romantic and cruel times of the reign of the Moors, the ancient district of Albaizin was considered the main central quarter of the city. Albayzin is a labyrinth of endless stairs and narrow streets where white houses glimmering in the sun are crowded. After 700 years from the moment of its birth in Albaizin, only about thirty churches and some fifty restaurants were added. Tourists don´t need tickets other than for a guided tour.
