Conclusion.
Squatters every day life wasn’t easy, sometimes it was very ascetic, as to say dangerous. Mostly it was on the border of law braiking. But it was a time for rethinking the values of western consumer society and implementing creativity in own life. It was a great opportunity to learn new things and try a freegan lifestyle. As to money saiving, this time while living in squatts helped to concentrate on other things which thise people were interested in rather than constantly thinking how to earn money for liv-ing.
Unfortenately just before London Olimpic games and after the lost of the Labour goverment in London some new politicians started compaign against squatting movement to gain some wotes. So in 2012, under Section 144 of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012, squatting in a residential property was re-defined by the Government, as a criminal offence. More people in London now become homeless, as to say still about 600.000 properties in London were empty. Still many squatters who doesn’t have other choise continue to squatt. Still squatting is present in Wales region and other cities of UK.
Second most popular place for squatting in Europe after London was Amsterdam. There it is still legal. So people who wants to live squatter lifestyle from Latvia and Lithuania now chooses this city.
If we speak about freegan lifestyle, that it is spread now around all western countries. As we see lately big overproducing of goods and overconsumption leeds to exoustion of worlds recources. To protest against it many peoples choose downshifting freegan lifestyle. Thise movement especialy is popular in New York where midle class people in grups organise raids around supermarket and restou-rant bins in the biggest streets of the center to save the food which is thrown away in big quantities.
The biggest supermarket chain Maxima in Lithuania and Latvia is throwing away tons of food every day. In 2012 in Latvian city Rezekne local newspaper published a letter to the administrators of the all supermarkets of the city where people expressed their idea and protest that it is not acceptable by christian faith to throw away food. Some of the supermarkets now don’t stop people who come to takeunsold but still good fruits and vegetables for themselfes and for their animals.
