Name “Thai” means “free”.
Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia who has never been a European colony.
From the 13.century to the early 20.century, the country was called Siam.
In 1939 the name was changed to Thailand.
Thailand has a population of about 57 million. Nearly 10 percent of the population lives in Bangkok, the country’s capital and largest city.
