Founded by Tsar Peter I of Russia on 27 May, 1703, it was the capital of the Russian Empire for more than two hundred years.
Saint Petersburg ceased being the capital in 1918 after the Russian Revolution of 1917. 
It is Russia's second largest city after Moscow with 4.6 million inhabitants, and over 6 million people live in it.
Saint Petersburg is a major European cultural centre, and an important Russian port on the Baltic Sea.
Unlike in Moscow, in Saint Petersburg the historic architecture of the city centre, mostly consisting of Baroque and Neoclassical buildings of the 18th and 19th centuries.
The oldest of the remaining building is a wooden house built for Peter I in 1703 on the shore of the Neva near Trinity Square.
The White Nights Festival in Saint Petersburg is famous for spectacular fireworks and massive show celebrating the end of school year.…
