During the past years the labour relations in the Republic of Latvia have significantly changed due to the changes in the legislation. The labour relations in the Republic of Latvia are regulated by the Labour Law, which came into force on 1st June 2002, previously the labour relations were regulated by the Labour Code. The Labour Law transposes the requirements of the EU directives, as well as the requirements of the International Labour Organisation conventions which has been ratified by the Republic of Latvia. In comparison with the former Labour Code, the Labour Law regulates issues on equal opportunities, direct and indirect discrimination (concerning advertisements and interviews), the questions concerning employees’ representatives – their duties and rights.…
