In Estonia, the main ports were Paldiski, Tallin, and Narva and because of climate, they were great exits from Russian Empire. “Through the Estonian ports were exported flax, wood, leather, cereals (rye, oats and wheat), but imported cotton, steel, coal, fertilizers, industrial equipment and machinery. In Estonia it was similar as it was in Latvia, exporting goods like butter and bacon, but importing raw materials from the same countries.”
Sadly, in Lithuania the level of foreign trade was low. They exported agricultural goods to Great Brittan, France, and Germany. Also, there were no big ports for Lithuanians.
In the conclusion, there is no way how we can compare Estonian and Latvian economic development with Lithuanian economic development because the contrast is so drastic. But also we can’t blame Lithuanians, because the only reason why Lithuania was so underdeveloped at that time, was because of Russia.
