7. CONCLUSION
All in all, as this report shows, Qantas has performed quite well under the difficult and changing circumstances of the airline industry. It was one of the few airlines in the world that has still made moderate profits.
However it has also been lucky with the collapse of its domestic rival Ansett and the management did not hesitate to seize the resulting growth opportunity. During difficult times of international operations it was able to deploy the overcapacity of international aircraft to its domestic operations and therefore limit the consequential difficulties to a minimum. Qantas also has a unique position in the domestic Australian market, which relies, because of the country's vast size, on air travel.
The airline industry will always be vulnerable but Qantas so far has proved to be a relatively stable company and was able to compensate losses due to efficient management
Qantas is one of the oldest commercial airlines and has had a very good reputation especially regarding safety without any major incidents, which is increasingly important with passengers being more and more concerned about safety.
Following this analysis and Qantas's potential growth and a possible alliance with ANZ in the near future, it would be a wise decision for an investor to invest in the company.
